Hemorrhoids are an uncomfortable and common problem that used to require painful procedures for effective treatment. Thankfully, that no longer has to be the case. Surgical Associates of WNY is pleased to offer an office-based quick and painless procedure to treat hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids occur when veins in and around the anus become swollen and inflamed. They occur for a variety of reasons, including chronic constipation, obesity, pregnancy, and straining during bowel movements. Ultimately, they can cause pain and bleeding.

Over-the-counter and home remedies can sometimes relieve the discomfort. But, if the hemorrhoids don’t respond to those treatments, hemorrhoid surgery or outpatient procedures may be necessary.

Hemorrhoid Treatment Options: Infrared Coagulation or Rubber Band Ligation

Infrared Coagulation

Surgical Associates offers both infrared coagulation and rubber-band ligation to treat painful hemorrhoids. Your surgeon will determine which treatment option is best for you. Both options are performed in the office, only take a few minutes, have a long history of being safe and effective, and are virtually pain-free. No anesthesia is required and patients experience a fast recovery.

  • Using Infrared Coagulation, the hemorrhoid is hit with bursts of infrared light from a probe. This causes the blood vessels supplying the hemorrhoid to coagulate, and ultimately blood flow is cut off and the hemorrhoid shrinks away.
  • Using Rubber-Band Ligation, a “use-once” disposable instrument deploys a small elastic ring at the base of the hemorrhoid, stopping its blood flow. This causes the hemorroidal mass to shrink and fall off within a few days.
