Hemorrhoid Treatment Options: Infrared Coagulation or Rubber Band Ligation
Surgical Associates offers both infrared coagulation and rubber-band ligation to treat painful hemorrhoids. Your surgeon will determine which treatment option is best for you. Both options are performed in the office, only take a few minutes, have a long history of being safe and effective, and are virtually pain-free. No anesthesia is required and patients experience a fast recovery.
- Using Infrared Coagulation, the hemorrhoid is hit with bursts of infrared light from a probe. This causes the blood vessels supplying the hemorrhoid to coagulate, and ultimately blood flow is cut off and the hemorrhoid shrinks away.
- Using Rubber-Band Ligation, a “use-once” disposable instrument deploys a small elastic ring at the base of the hemorrhoid, stopping its blood flow. This causes the hemorroidal mass to shrink and fall off within a few days.
